Weekend Roundup Week 29

I had an epiphany recently after one of my chats with EDGI!   I started this blog with the intention of documenting my journey, but I have just realized that I have not been doing such a good job with this!

Apart from my monthly updates, I have not included a whole lot about my journey!

To remedy this, I will try and write a post every week to include

  1. My Expectations for the week
  2. What I learned
  3. Things I appreciate
  4. Any other ramblings I may have

Looking forward to the week ahead!

Slap Ban to Reality!

For the first time in over 16 weeks I am physically back in the office on Monday morning.  I remember at the beginning of lockdown I did not know if I would enjoy working from home. It turns out I actually love it and I am dreading going back to the office for the typical 8-5.

Working from home gave me a little bit more flexibility and I believe that I got more actual work done from home than when I’m in the office.

Back to reality I suppose!

My main goal for this week is to do a little bit of learning on the Dividend Discount Model.

I had a quick go at it this morning while trying to come up with a valuation for PEPSICO and I kept getting a negative valuation.

Knowing this could not be right and to prevent a couple of hours of frustration I sent it over to the Sundayinvestor to throw his eagle eye over it and sure enough, I was making some flawed assumptions. I also appreciate the suggestion to check out this link to implement a two-staged dividend discount model.  Dividend Discount Model

JV goals?

Super excited for this but I have recently just found out about a scheme in Ireland called repair and lease which might make it possible for us to get on the property investment ladder. Still a bit new but I have set up a meeting with a couple who live close by who are experienced in this and are looking for potential JV partnership.

Stay tuned for this one!

Income Summaries

I don’t know about you but I love reading Dividend Income summaries from other investors. Really helps to keep me motivated and shows off the true power of dividend investing!

Bert who is one-half of the awesome Dividend Diplomats had a record-breaking (non-December) dividend income of $1,962.02 in a month. WOW!  That is agonizingly close to the $2k in a month but let’s face it, It won’t be long before that threshold is smashed. Check Out Berts Summary Here

Polliesdividend got my attention with the tagline “Dutch Dividend Engineer”.  Dividends and Engineering is my kind of blog 😊.  A little bit late with this post but it summarizes the total dividend income from our Dutch blogging friends.  A total of €1,308.67 is awesome.  Check Out the Post here

I wonder if there are any other Irish Dividend Investors out there in the blogosphere. Get in touch and maybe we can do our own version of these types of blogs!!

Interesting Blogs

I came across this fantastic little blog today called 5amjoel. Every day he gets up at 5 am and sends a short positive message to friends, family, co-workers, and strangers from his blog.

The blog posts are short but powerful and I love this Idea. Here is one of my favourite recent posts

Im not quite sure I could get up at 5AM every morning though!

Interesting Podcasts

A recent addition to my podcast library has been the Dapper Dividends Podcast – Check it out here!

One of the main points that stuck with me was piece Russ read from john taffers book – Don’t Bullshit yourself.

He basically describes that most people do not have a Time management problem. They have a priority management problem.  I agree with this to a certain extent but I think for most people in my position the priorities would look similar to mine

  1. Family
  2. Job to support Family
  3. Hobbies ( to de-stress)
  4. Side hustles

Sometimes It can be hard to fit everything in.

This is why I love dividend investing. Aside from the blog and podcast (which I love doing) is it as passive a hobbie as you can get. It also has the upside of making me money each and every month.

That’s all for this week folks. Hope you all had a pleasant weekend!
